Description
Kölner Instacoll gilding system is a water-based gilding base and adhesive (size) designed for interior and exterior leaf work where weather resistance and high gloss are important. It can be used on nearly all substrates that have been prepared using standard and accepted techniques to create weather-resistant surfaces. Do not use Instacoll directly on glass outdoors. For indoor gilding, it is sufficient to have or prepare a non-porous surface. Agate burnishing is not possible or even necessary.
KöIner Instacoll gilding system consists of two components:
- Instacoll Base, available in yellow or clear
- Instacoll Activator
KöIner Instacoll High Gloss gilding system consists of two components:
- Instacoll Base High Gloss, available in yellow, grey, or clear
- Instacoll Activator High Gloss
KöIner Instacoll Matte gilding system consists of two components:
- Instacoll Base Matte, available in yellow or clear
- Instacoll Activator
Instacoll Base (available in Clear and Yellow formulations) can be applied directly onto a non-porous surface without preparing it with clay or bole. However, the surface should be very smooth, as irregularities in the surface will show through to the gilding. Once the Instacoll Base is completely dried, apply Instacoll Activator prior to gilding.
Prior to gilding, Instacoll Activator needs to be completely dry. After activating, the Instacoll surface is now prepared so that the gold leaf will adhere well and have a maximum burnish effect.
