Description
Kölner Colnsol is a hide glue preparation used to make a size for loose gold leaf. Kölner Colnsol is ideal for achieving polishable high-gloss gold leaf and silver leaf and high-gloss imitation gold leaf. The Kölner-Glanz-Gold-Grund (KGGG) system does not require an alcohol-hide glue size but rather a weak solution of hide glue in water.
Directions
To prepare Colnsol size, dissolve one (or part of one) Colnasol tablet in hot water and apply it after it has cooled to room temperature.
One tablet dissolves in 500 ml (17 fluid ounces) of water. You can also use part of a tablet for smaller amounts of size.
After applying the gold leaf, wait at least 24 hours before burnishing with an agate burnisher.
