Winsor & Newton Griffin Alkyd Oil Colors combine professional quality with the advantage of rapid drying times, making them excellent for plein air painting, impasto, and glazing. Formulated with a non-yellowing alkyd resin binder, these colors dry to the touch on canvas in approximately 18–24 hours and can be varnished in just 30 days, allowing you to build up layers or even finish a painting in a single session.
The majority single-pigment range includes 48 colors, each carefully formulated for maximum tinting strength, excellent handling, and to showcase the unique qualities of each pigment. Because alkyd resin differs slightly from traditional oils, pigment loads are affected, resulting in slightly greater transparency compared to Winsor & Newton’s Artists’ Oil range. Nonetheless, Griffin Alkyd Colors remain workable on the palette for 4–8 hours, maintain impressive durability and color retention, and are compatible with conventional oil mediums and solvents—giving artists the freedom to explore a range of techniques without the wait.
