The medium has a water-soluble base so you can use it without changing the working characteristics of your Walnut Ink. You can even use the medium straight from the bottle as an intense dark brown Sumi ink. Tom Norton’s Walnut Darkening Medium has extra staining power and does not lift as well as Walnut Ink, but it is fadeproof, acid free, and archival!
