You can apply the gesso with a palette knife to create a rough texture or sand between coats to achieve a smooth result. Once dry, New York Central® Gesso makes a sturdy base for graphite, charcoal, oil pastels, acrylic, and oil paints. You can even mix it with acrylic paint to create a toned background.
