Vermilion Hue is an opaque, bright orange red. The genuine pigment was made from toxic mercuric sulphide and was created by the Chinese in the 8th century AD. Prior to this, Vermilion’s predecessor Cinnabar was used as early as the 3rd century BC by the ancient greeks.
