Schmincke Horadam Naturals Watercolor – Indigofera, 15ml Tube
Natural Indigo is obtained from the Indigofera plant and yields a somewhat dull bluish-black pigment. Indigo has been used in Roman paintings from the 1st century AD and paintings across all periods of European art, with the oldest evidence dating back to 3000 BCE.
The natural pigments are sometimes slightly coarser in texture, which – unlike gouache – results in a rougher, usually slightly granular surface effect. The colors aren’t stiff but don’t flow as easily as traditional watercolor.
